5 Different Types of Telephone Cables

by DoItYourself Staff

Having the correct telephone cables can make all the difference in terms of how practical it is to use your telephone. By taking certain specifications into account, you can ensure that you get the correct cables for your own personal requirements.

Retractable

Though having long telephone cables can be useful in allowing you to move the telephone to different locations, it can also cause problems by continually getting tangled up. This can be a problem where the telephone is located close to other equipment that also make use of cables. A retractable cable is one in which the cable is enclosed in a circular casing that makes use of a handle to wind the cable back into it.

This type of cable is highly beneficial as it can prevent problems with tangled cables. It can be coiled back into the casing of the cable when it is not required and also released when necessary.

Splitter cable

Telephone cables that split are useful when you need them to be used for multiple purposes such as telephone and Internet use. A splitter attachment can also be used to achieve this as it allows more than one cable to be powered by a single telephone jack, thus making it an easier option than installing additional sockets. This small device is much like an electric extension cord and comprises of several sockets where there would normally only be one. Because of this, several items can be powered from one place.

Wireless

With a wireless telephone jack and the corresponding component attached to your telephone, it is possible to achieve a wireless telephone cable connection. These systems are easy to set up, but will only work within a certain distance as they use sensors that need to be able to read each other.

This type of system is useful for reducing the clutter that can come with a large number of cables as well as making it easy to move the telephone to a different location. It will even allow the telephone to be moved to a different room if the relevant telephone jack has been fitted there as well. Be aware that you will need to maintain a clear line of sight between the telephone sensor and the wall jack to enable the system to continue working.

Extension cable

Where you require telephone cables that need to be lengthened, extension cables can be used to achieve this. The additional length will allow the telephone to be moved freely while still maintaining some slack to prevent the cable from becoming snagged. There are a great number of lengths that cables are available in so it will be easy to find one to suit your purposes.

Fiber Optic Cable

Advances in technology means that the use of a fiber optic cable with your telephone can improve its performance and ensure that the line is free from interference and static. Fitting this type of telephone cable will result in a marked improvement in the amount of crackling on the line if this has previously been a problem. In addition, the components of these types of cable will often be of a better quality than a standard cable.
