5 Reasons to Open Additional Twitter Accounts

Twitter is one of those online social services that you either love or hate. If you understand it when you are first exposed to it, you are likely to be on the love side of the equation. Sometimes, however, it is helpful to open additional accounts.

Here are 5 reasons why you might open additional Twitter accounts:

Reason 1: Separating Work and Personal Lives

Your boss and co-workers are on Twitter, they know you are as well. Do you really want them knowing what you do late at night in your off hours? Get yourself a non-identifying personal twitter account name and keep followers separated.

Reason 2: Promoting Specific Websites

If you do any blogging, or your company has multiple websites, creating additional Twitter accounts for each online destination is perfectly acceptable. Be sure not to set up multiple names for spamming. Those extra accounts will get shut down.

Reason 3: Short Run Marketing Campaigns

Medium to large sized businesses are waking up to the social media marketing capabilities available for free on Twitter. Temporary Twitter accounts are created every day with specific marketing goals in mind.

Reason 4: Secret Alter Egos

We all have them. Some of us may even share their existence with others. If you fit into that category, by all means create an additional Twitter account for your alter ego.

Reason 5: Squatting on Twitter Names

Simply grabbing an additional Twitter account in order to try and make money down the road is not looked upon lightly. First off, the account will most likely be taken away from you by the officials at Twitter. Whether it is reported that the additional account should belong to another person (think celebrity) or Twitter just figures that you should not have that account name, it will be removed. You might even find yourself banned.
