6 Must Have Home Entertainment Accessories

by DoItYourself Staff

Home entertainment is no laughing matter, and many people take their time away from work very seriously. There are many accessories that one can purchase to add to their home entertainment system, but very few can be considered a "must have." This article will help you decide just which home entertainment accessories are truly necessary for the serious fan of entertainment.

1. HDMI Connection

If you're serious about your home entertainment, then you must have High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). This is the absolute best way to view and hear anything. HDMI is high-definition at its finest, and it is compatible with any digital signal. What makes HDMI a must-have is the fact that it doesn't compress the data that it's receiving. This means that the expensive high-definition television you have will be able to display the picture quality the way it was intended.

2. Wireless Surround Sound

Watching a movie with the ability to hear every rain drop or whisper is simply awesome. Add the fact that you have no wires to worry about, and it becomes phenomenal. The wireless surround sound speakers work through radio frequencies and infrared. Since the system is wireless, it's very easy to install and the speakers can be placed in almost any location.

3. Digital Video Recorder

A DVR system is widely available through satellite companies, cable companies and as a standalone unit. The DVR is patched directly into the transceiver and the television. The signal goes through the DVR and you have the option to record the program. You can pause live television as well, in case you need to get a bowl of nachos, go to the bathroom or answer the phone. You can fast forward and rewind like you would a VHS tape. The program is saved on a hard drive that is in the DVR unit. Even the most basic unit can hold more than 20 hours of programs. As an added bonus, you can set the DVR to record an entire series, but skip reruns.

4. Power Management System

Over the years, you have collected a large amount of home electronics from DVR systems to game consoles. The one thing that they all have in common are power plugs. Things can become very cluttered behind the television. A power management system is like a surge protector in that you can plug your components into it, and it regulates the power to each.

5. Universal Remote Control

Every device you purchase will have its own remote control to operate it. Save yourself the headache of losing any one of them, and replace them all with one universal remote control.

6. Blu-Ray DVD Player

This is the latest and greatest in DVD technology. Blu-ray discs hold high-definition movies, but you need a blu-ray DVD player to watch them.
