6 Tips for Running Subwoofer Cable in Your Entertainment Room
Running any type of cable or wire in your home can be an unsightly chore, especially when running subwoofer cable, speaker wires and similar lines. Wires for a home entertainment system, media room or home theater can total in the double digits. This makes hiding them and keeping them gathered neatly imperative to maintaining a clean look to your home. Read on to learn some tricks for running subwoofer cables as well as other wires.
Tuck Under Baseboards
If the room where your equipment is installed has a floor that is carpeted, you have a very simple solution. You need to measure enough subwoofer cable and speaker wires that will reach your equipment. Run these wires along the bottom of the baseboard between it and the edge of the carpet. The space under the baseboard may look cramped but there is typically enough room to tuck a subwoofer cable under it. You could remove the baseboard, run the cable, then replace it over the wires.
Hide Under Carpet
If you have a lot of ground to cover, your best solution might be to hide the cables under the carpet. Crossing through doorways and down hallways will require a lot of subwoofer cable. If your home is carpeted, the wire can be run around the perimeter of the room and tucked under the carpet or under the center of the carpet using flat cables.
Through the Ceiling
It may sound difficult to do, but this relatively easy if you have drop ceilings in the home. You can mount most of your speakers near the ceiling and then direct them where you need them. If your ceiling is not a drop ceiling then you will have to drill holes through the joists. Subwoofer cable will have to be seen but you can tape it in place and then paint it the color of the wall.
Go Wireless
The easiest solution to running cable is to not have any cable at all. Wireless speakers and subwoofers are available at a premium price but they are well worth it if just to avoid the hassle of wires and cables.
Walled-In Speakers
This is a great solution for those that want to create a dynamic and contemporary look to their home theater room. All of the speakers will be place inside of alcoves in the wall and all the wires behind them. To achieve this look you would build an extra wall and cut holes for the speakers. Place the speakers where they belong and run the cable behind the extra wall and then affix it in place.
Cable Run
This is a flexible plastic tube that can be installed before the ceiling has been drywalled. You can run a tube that spans the distance from one wall to another and down. This is also great for more expensive wires.
