A Guide to Lengthening a DVD Player USB Cord

by DoItYourself Staff

Lengthening your DVD player USB cord is very simple. There a few different options to use when you need some extra cord to reach exactly where your player is.

Read below for some ideas on how to make enough space to use your DVD correctly, and also how to lengthen the cable for your DVD player, creating enough room for you to do what you need to do.

Extension Cable

There are extension cables that are available for purchase. These extension cables come in multiple sizes just as extension cords do. You will want to make sure, however that you only purchase a long enough extension cable to reach where you need it to go. So, you will want to measure the exact amount of cable you need to reach where you want to go, and purchase just that exact length of extension cable.

There is no need for excess cable. This will only create more of a mess, and can get tangled with other wires and create more of a hassle, and repairs that may need to be done.

Connect the male end of the USB cable to the female end of the extension cable, and plug it in. If you are using an adapter, you will want to insert the male end into the female end of the adapter. This creates a pretty simple fix as long as you make the connections carefully, and test your DVD out before connecting anything else.

Move Your DVD Player

Sounds a little obvious, and maybe this really isn't feasible, but one of the easiest things you can do is to move your DVD player closer to where you need to plug in the USB cord.

Of course, if there is no other place you can move your DVD player to, this option isn't a quick fix. However, if it is easier to plug in your DVD player, this will be the best option. You will not need to purchase any extra equipment, nor have the worry of the power source not reaching its destination properly.

Low power source is discussed next, so if you are purchasing an extension cable, you will want to explore the next topic very well.

Using a Driver System

If you choose the option to purchase an extension cable, you may want to think about using a buffer driver system. This makes sure that the power goes correctly through both cables, and reaches its destination properly, making sure your DVD player runs exactly how it should. If your power source is lower, it will be harder to go through both cables without interruption.

Whether you choose to move your DVD, or you choose to purchase an extender, be careful when working with any type of cables. Remember to test out the equipment after you have repaired, installed, or simply hooked up your item. That way you can fix anything that may be not working properly before hooking up other items.
