A DVD player recorder is a stand-alone DVD player that also allows you to record DVDs on DVD+R or DVD-R discs available at any big box store or electronics store. It allows you to record television shows by programming it just like a VCR. In order for a DVD player recorder to do this, it needs to be connected to the television. This can cause a placement challenge if the television is wall-mounted. Ideally the recorder should also be wall mounted to create a streamlined look in your entertainment room, great room or living room. Here are some instructions on an economical way to wall mount a DVD player recorder yourself.
Step 1 - Determine the Shelving Size
Decide where you'd like to place the wall mount for the DVD player recorder. The most economical kind of wall mount is wire shelving similar to the kind you use in closets. It's wires allow you to easily pull wires through as necessary. They also do not collect dust because of all the openings.
Check to see if there's space to put the shelf under the TV. This will allow for easiest access to the DVD player recorder. If there's no room, you'll need to locate a spot beside the television to put the shelf. Buy the shelf with matching hardware once you've determined the size you need.
Step 2 - Find the Studs
Use a stud finder to locate the studs. In a pinch, use your knuckles and knock the wall. A hollow sound that resonates indicates space behind the drywall and a short, solid sound indicates a stud. Mark the location of the studs with a pencil. Ideally you should have at least one end of the shelf mounted in a stud. A longer shelf will allow you to mount both ends in a stud. Decide if a longer shelf will work with your decor and meet your needs. Besides holding the DVD player recorder, a longer shelf can also be used to store a cable box and any other electronic items you use for your TV.
Step 2 - Prepare the Hardware
Mark where you would like the holes by positioning the shelf and getting a helper to hold the shelf. Make sure you use the level to ensure the shelf is even. Drill holes in the locations needed to mount the shelf. If each end of the shelf will reach a stud, then position the shelf and screw that hardware into the walls. If there is no stud, hammer a drywall anchor into the hole before mounting the shelf.
Step 3 - Mount the Shelf
Hang the shelf by partially screwing the hardware into the wall. Use the level to double check to make sure the shelf is level. Tighten the screws into the wall. Place the DVD recorder on the shelf along with any other electronics you use for your television that can fit on the shelf.
