Advantages of a Recessed Receptacle

by DoItYourself Staff

Home owners who plan to add a power receptacle to their homes and have little or no experience in installing them will generally want to know about recessed receptacles and their benefits. Here are 3 benefits you can expect from choosing recessed receptacles over those that are surface mounted:

Convenience

For simple convenience, you can't beat a recessed receptacle. One reason is that because it is flush mounted, the risk of it getting bumped, damaged, or even torn from the wall it's attached to is virtually zero. As for furniture legs that might become damaged from bumping into a receptacle, there is also zero chance of that happening with a recessed one.

Space

Planning to move a dresser, refrigerator, or flat screen TV against a wall? By installing a recessed receptacle you will be able to move your furniture or appliance flat against the wall where it will take up less space.

Flat Screen Television

Recessed receptacles for use with flat screen TV's are the only receptacle you should use if you want to avoid sharp bends in cords that plug into your television. Bends in cords can create short circuits. In addition, where you will be installing your flat screen television on a wall, you will want it mounted flush against the wall.
