Advantages of Gable Vent Fans

by DoItYourself Staff

Gable vent fans are one way to ensure that the inside of your attic does not become overheated. During the summer, the attic can be a major source of hot air. A gable vent fan will allow cool air to travel into the attic, cooling the whole house down.

Cost

Although there are a number of vent fans available, one good reason to buy gable vent fans is cost. These fans are much cheaper than other types of roof ventilation, and you will also save money on the installation, as you can do it yourself. Gable vent fans also have a good running cost, being less than 4 cents per hour.

Venting Ability

Gable vent fans can ventilate a large space, providing slightly less than 1,300 cubic feet of cooled air every minute. For a small attic, you might only need one for the entire roof,  while even larger attics will only need two gable attic fans, one at each end.

Convenient

Once you have installed your gable attic fans, you will find that they are also convenient to use. Most fans are operated via a thermostat, which you can set to your own particular heat tolerances.
