If you can't remember the last time you replaced your lawnmower, you might be surprised to discover that lawn care can be much easier than you think. Thanks to advances in technology and design, longtime nuisances are things of the past."The days of bags that require a degree in engineering to put on and take off are behind us," says Joe Hager, a senior engineer at mower manufacturer Lawn-Boy. "The smarter manufacturers pay a lot of attention to exactly how people mow, what frustrates them and how their bodies move, and then design features that fit."
Lawn-Boy has seen trends in technology come and go, and remains at the forefront of the new user-friendly mower revolution. After interviewing hundreds of homeowners and studying video of their mowing habits, Lawn-Boy's engineers developed its lines of Insight and Insight Gold walk-behinds with innovative features like an easily adjustable handle height, a bag you can remove with just one hand, and a self-propel system that automatically senses and adjusts the mower to your walking speed.
This summer Lawn-Boy launched a new Web site, www.findyourmower.com, to help homeowners navigate the often overwhelming number of options available and find exactly the right mower for their particular needs. The interactive buyer's guide first helps lawn mower shoppers assess their personal needs such as the size of their yard, their height, who does most of their mowing, their yard's terrain and storage limitations. Then, based on the information they input, the guide lets them know which features match their needs and recommends the right mower options.
"The new site is easy to use and takes a lot of the guesswork out of choosing a mower that you will be using for many, many years," Hager says.
