Are central air filtration systems necessary with heat pumps?

by DoItYourself Staff

Air filtration systems are added to many traditional heating and cooling installations in a home to clean the air of dust and other allergens. Dust tends to collect in duct work of these systems and thus creates problems in the home. A heat pump system contains its own air filtration system that uses replaceable or washable filters. Installing an additional central air filtration system would be redundant and a waste of money and energy to operate it. In areas of high dust or extremely dirty air, you can just clean the heat pump filters more often to maintain them.
