Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems: Preventing Water Damage
As much of a benefit as having an automatic fire sprinkler system is, there is still going to be the hassle of preventing water damage. When the system is activated, and the water is sprayed through your home, you only have a short amount of time to prevent serious water damage from occurring.
Things to Look For
The first thing that you need to take care of is to pick up any and all floor mats. These mats will hold water, and continue to simply sit and soak into your floorboards. The second thing to work on is anything that is electronic. While most people think that there is no way to save them, if you get them quickly you can prevent having to replace them. Turn the items upside down to help the water drain out from them. As well, take a hair dryer to dry off the little parts that you cannot reach with a cloth.
Clean Your Carpets
You need to be sure that you dry your carpets as soon as possible. Just like the mats, the carpets are going to hold the water inside of them and will ruin the floors underneath. If you have a Bissell, you can get up even more of the water by yourself.
Further Prevention
If you look at local stores, you can find various items that will help alert you to any leaks that are occurring. Several devices will trigger alarms for water shut off systems. These devices are used if your water lines are leaking. They are placed inside your walls to monitor the water pipe system. The sensors in your sprinkler system are only triggered when the temperature rises to a certain point which then triggers the sprinklers to eliminate the fires.
