Automatic garage door repair doesn't have to be scary or expensive. By following the steps below, you can save yourself a lot of time and money.
Outside Issues
If your garage door seems to close partway and then open again, make sure that there isn't anything like a soccer ball or a tool laying in the way. If the sensor sees something blocking its way, no matter how small, the door won't close. This could be a case not of your garage door malfunctioning, but actually doing what it's supposed to.
Unplug
Sometimes automatic garage door repair can be as simple as unplugging it. If your garage door seems to have a mind of its own, opening and closing at random, the first thing you should do is unplug it. When you plug it back in, it "reboots" itself and the glitch may be fixed.
Take a Peek
If unplugging the garage door opener didn't work, you will need to take a look inside the unit. Cut the power to your opener and unplug it. If any of the wires look frayed or chewed, you will need to replace them. If your opener uses belts rather than chains or gears to run, make sure that the belt is on track and working.
Help may be Needed
After looking inside, if everything looks fine, you may still need to have someone else look at the unit. Sometimes with an automatic garage door repair isn't an option and the unit needs to be replaced.
