Barbecue Propane Tanks: Exchange or Refill?
When your barbecue propane tank runs dry, you will need to get more propane, but should you exchange it or refill it? Recycling is important to many people, so many may suggest reusing the container. However, exchanging it will still allow for the container to be reused.
Refilling the Tank
One thing to be aware of when filling the tank is that it does not always become all the way full. Either because of employee error or because there is a lot of pressure in the tank while being refilled, many 20-gallon tanks will only receive about 15 gallons of propane.
Also, there are some companies who will charge you more for refilling your tank. To avoid this, research companies in your area and see what they are charging. Compare this fee to prices of exchanging the tank. Do whichever is most economically sound.
Exchanging the Tank
Though you would be exchanging your tank for a new one, many companies will still give you a discount if you give them your used tank. You can receive your new propane right away and will not have to wait, though you may not save as much money as if you were getting it refilled.
Exchanging your tank will allow you to know what you are getting, and it is quicker and easier.
