Bathroom Shower Tile Design Tips

by DoItYourself Staff

Bathroom shower tiles can help to create a new focal point to the room while giving a touch of class to an area. The greatest advantage of tiles is that they are easier to clean than most other construction and decorative materials, however, before attempting to tile your bathroom shower, it is important to choose a design.

Type of Tiles

Nowadays, bathrooms have become one of the most decorated areas of relaxation in the house and thus various tile types have been produced to help the consumer cover all his needs. One of the most popular is the resin tile, which are protected beneath a glossy and smooth surface. They have a transparent surface and can create a very original decorative pattern in your design. Then there is stone or ceramic tile which can be used to decorate around showers simply because they are the easiest to clean out of the whole lot. Lastly come decorative tiles which can be used to add a touch of class and elegance to your shower area. These are generally covered with a clear glaze, making them durable and suitable for shower areas.

Color and Design

When considering tiling your bathroom shower it important to think about the color and mood you want to give to the room. In fact, it is advisable to always start with neutral, warm, earth colors and then accentuate and decorate with accent tiles to add a touch of color and vivacity to the room. Once you have settled down on the colors it is important to map out the design you want to use. At this point you can choose the actual tile sizes and how many different types of tiles you will be using. Remember that creativity will be your only limit here. Remember that light colors give the impression that the area is larger than it actually is and that you can create contrasts by using more than one color. To add color you can create a random design of accent tiles. Keep in mind that shower tiles come in a huge array of shapes and colors so you are more than free to use them in any design.

Designs

When preparing your design you can choose to have a mural pattern or a more simplistic type of design. If you are more of a traditionalist you can use simple decorative colors and patterns that will enhance and complement the already present color scheme in your bathroom. You can use border patterns to accentuate the actual shower, and you can also use smaller tiles for bordering edges while keeping the larger tiles for the actual shower.

For bolder projects you can choose to use ceramic tile murals. These are custom made and are ideal for backsplash areas. Many of them are handmade and will thus be more expensive than commercial type of tiles. But here you can let your imagination go loose and select an image from any topic you like such as animals, greenery, birds, flowers, and many more. Keep in mind that you can also get any picture you want impressed on these tiles so that you can randomly use them as accent tiles. There is no need to worry about such tiles because they are strong, durable, resistant to heat, moisture and water. You can also use glass mosaic tiles and create your own pattern which can be either monochrome or multi-colored.

These are the basic and most important tips regarding bathroom shower tile designs. Remember that here only your imagination is the limit and that you can play around with different types, sizes, colors and patterns for your actual finished design.
