Bathroom Vanity Cabinet vs Wall-Hung Vanity

by DoItYourself Staff

Bathroom vanity cabinets are the types of things that are not really great necessities, but they do come in quite handy on a daily basis in the household. In addition to basic functionality, they can also add or detract from the aesthetics of your bathroom. There are two main types of bathroom vanities, cabinet-style or wall-hung. A great feature of both types of cabinets is that they can hide the under sink plumbing and pipes with an attractive decorative façade. The kind of design for your particular bathroom, however, is really best determined by the amount of space you have available.

Here are the basic advantages of each style:

Cabinet Vanity

Cabinet vanities are the more traditional style for bathrooms and provide the largest amount of storage space. Whereas wall-hung vanities focus more on style, with a free-standing cabinet, the main focus shifts to functionality, ease of use and ensuring that the dimensions of the cabinet do not overwhelm the space.

Wall-Hung Vanity

The wall-hung vanity offers less storage than the cabinet style but the main advantage is that it’s a great space saver – especially if you have a small bathroom. The wall mounting frees up floor space, giving the illusion of a bigger room.
