Bathroom Wall-Hung Sink vs Pedestal Sink

by DoItYourself Staff

Choosing a bathroom wall hung sink or a pedestal sink can make all the difference in storage capabilities if you are confronted with a small bathroom.

Wall Hung
In combination with a space saver cabinet, or wall cabinet, you can allow free space to open up your small bathroom by choosing a wall hung sink. These sinks are growing in popularity regardless of bathroom size but are most appropriate if you have size restrictions and storage requirements. You will need to make sure your wall can support the weight of the sink, but as long as you find a wall stud to attach the sink to you'll be okay. Freeing up the floor space will make your bathroom look bigger and make the sink a lot easier to clean as well. One disadvantage on some types of wall-hung sinks is that the plumbing is visible. Check with your local store for semi-pedestal or other modern options (if that is your style) as they are cleaner and manage to conceal the plumbing.

Pedestal

They are not banned from smaller bathrooms but are better suitable for larger ones. There is a certain elegance to them and they come in a variety of styles from classic to contemporary. The obvious advantage is that they conceal the plumbing and don’t have any structural requirements for installation, as they stand on their own. They do, however, limit storage as they take up floor space. That can be solved with a vanity mirror cabinet being placed overhead.

Bathrooms seem to be the smallest space in the house but are of no less importance. Whatever option you choose, make sure it is properly installed and always keep your bathroom stylishly simple!
