Bathtub Caulking: What Types of Caulk to Use?
Bathtub caulking requires a certain type of caulk to be applied in order to ensure the job is done correctly. Not applying the right type of caulk could lead to problems. The least of these problems may mean reapplying the caulk. You may even have water damages to the tub or surrounding wall if you use the wrong type.
Silicone Caulk
Silicone caulk has been widely used in the past as a caulk for all surfaces. It is extremely durable and can be applied to any surface. This type of caulk, however, is sometimes difficult to handle, and can be difficult to clean up after. You must wear latex gloves before using this caulk. It also only comes in one color, and you'll have to find the right type of paint to apply over it.
Bathtub Caulk
There's a general bathtub caulk that is labeled as such at home improvement stores. It stands up to mold and mildew and it can be applied to tubs, sinks and toilets. It is generally safe to use. It also comes in a variety of colors, so you can match it to your current decor so you have no need to paint over it after it is completed. It's not quite as durable as silicone, but it works well, especially when applied properly and cleaned regularly.
