Best Time of Day for Watering Fence Plants
Like all plants there are good times of day to water fence plants. Watering at the right time of day will ensure that the water properly reaches the roots of the fence plants.
When to Water
It’s always best to water in the early morning or in the evening. Never water in the middle of the day or the water will evaporate before it can be very useful.
Where to Water
Water around the plant rather than over the leaves. Keeping the water around the plant’s base will make it much easier for the water to reach the roots of the fence plants. Consider putting a plant pot in the ground next to thirsty fence plants like tomato plants. That way you can fill the pot and the water will drain down into the fence plant root system.
Do You Need to Water?
You might not always need to water the fence plants. The simplest way to tell is to stick your finger into the soil to the depth of about 1 inch. If the soil feels damp there’s no need to water that day. If the soil feels wet at that depth there will be ample moisture down where the roots are. At the same time, you should never let the soil dry out completely before you water the fence plants.
