Bicycle Saddle Posture and Position Tips
If you have left your bicycle saddle in the position your have found it, you are risking injury every time you ride your bike. While the bike seat's position might seem like a small detail, it actually can have a very big effect on how you and your bike perform. The following bike saddle tips should help you keep yourself and your bike in the best possible condition.
Adjusting the Height
To begin, dress as you would when riding your bike. Your clothes and shoes will change your measurements, and it is best to be as precise as possible. Get on your bike and pedal in reverse. Your legs should extend fully when you pedal, but you should not need to adjust your position on your seat. If you need to adjust your position, lower your seat. If your legs do not extend fully, raise it.
Adjusting the Position
To determine if your saddle is too far forward or back, get on your bike and put your feet on the pedals so that they are parallel to the ground. The knee you have forward should be directly above the pedal. If it is not directly above the pedal, adjust the seat forward or backward so that it is.
