Bleaching

Bleaching wood can make all the difference in the appearance of a special piece of furniture or antique. It can be done by applying certain chemicals to a very clean surface of wood and then applying equal parts of vinegar and water to rinse the bleach from the wood.

This solution is important because a bleaching solution can drastically change the appearance of wooden furniture. Chemicals used for this process are Sodium hypochlorite and Oxalic acid.  Certain Types of Dark Wood are not Affected by Bleaching.  This can be a great advantage when restoring a special piece of wooden furniture because, sometimes you will find that your piece has an ebony stringing running through it, which adds to the character of the wood and can enhance the look.   It is important to research the chemicals that are most appropriate for your situation or project. It is also very important to be aware of safety precautions you can take when preparing to do any type of bleaching.
