Build A Portable Washer Dryer Combo Stand

by DoItYourself Staff

Portable washer dryer combo units require you to bend over every time you want to load up the machine, putting pressure on your back and legs. Building a pedestal or stand to raise the machines up to a usable level will aleviate back pain and hasten the loading/unloading process. Building the stand as a do-it-yourself project will save you a lot of money at the same time.

Measure Properly

Before you get started, determine how high you want the machines to sit for your use. Take careful measurements for the height of the stand as well as the width and depth of the machine, which will be the measurement that is used for the supports in the final product.

The pedestal stand can be made of two pieces of wood with the supports in between raising the stand to the height that you require.

Considerations for the Stand

Make sure that the wood or other material you choose to make the stand can handle the weight of the machines. The stand material should also be able to handle water without sustaining damage. If you are using wood, be sure to treat it for moisture protection before using. While your machines should not leak, leaks are often the only indication you will get that your machine is not working properly. Consequently, your stand needs to be able to withstand some water contact.
