Build a Putting Green: How to Make Custom Blueprints for Your Backyard

If you want to build a putting green in your backyard, there are a number of aspects you must consider to make sure you get the correct result. By creating a custom blueprint for your putting green design, you can be assured that you create the putting green of your dreams.

Step 1 – Consider Design

The first step to build a putting green is to determine the extent of the backyard that you intend to use for this project. Consider how you intend to use the putting green and whether you need to take into account the continued use of the surrounding backyard. This will help you to decide on the dimensions you will follow and where it will be positioned.

Consider about the way the sun moves and how this could enhance or interfere with your use of the space. Make sure you take into account all the aspects that you want to include as part of the green.  

Step 2 – Measure Backyard

Once you have decided on the basic outline, you will be in a position to measure the backyard to note the correct dimensions. Draw up a blueprint that takes the entire backyard into account. Measure the entire perimeter of the backyard and note down the results. This process will be easier by noting the result in accordance with the correct compass direction of the garden. Accurately note the status of the perimeter so that you will properly plot any unusual lines.

Step 3 – Transfer Measurements

Once you have noted down the dimensions, you can transfer them to paper by using a measurement that is to scale. For example, if you have measured the backyard in feet, you can create your scale drawing by using an inch for every foot. By drawing a bird’s eye view of the entire backyard, you can plot the precise position of where you intend to build a putting green.

If there are also items in the backyard such as trees, shrubbery and static furniture, you should also plot the position of these. This will not only help you to avoid them, but will also help you to decide on the design for the putting green.   

Step 4 – Plot Putting Green

Once you have drawn up the outline for the backyard, you will be able to do the same with the area for the green. This will ensure that you have a decent plan to follow when you start building. For an accurate design, use the same scale as that for the plan of the entire backyard. Ensure that you plot all of the features that you want the putting green to include and where they will be placed. At this stage, it is also a good idea to make a note of any particular materials that you want to use, which will help you determine the volume required.
