Can I install a sump pump in my basement without drain tile?

by DoItYourself Staff

You can install a sump pump in your basement without drain tile. You will need a hole that goes well below the surface line. It is a good idea to line that hole with cement and make sure there is a drain hooked to it. However, you do not need drain tile in your sump pump area because that feature is only designed to ensure that your basement stays dry in stormy weather. It doesn’t take drain tile to do this, although drain tile would give it a finished look.
