Can I move an electrical outlet onto a tiled wall?

by DoItYourself Staff

An electrical outlet can easily be moved to a tiled wall. With the advent of surface-mount outlet boxes and surface-mount conduit, you can easily open an existing two- or three-pronged outlet (first turning off the power to that circuit) and add the proper number of wires for the surface-mount box. You then locate the surface-mount outlet and use a small drill to punch holes through the tile and drywall to mount the box to the tiled wall. Use the surface-mount conduit to neaten things up so you can and mount the tile-mounted outlet box, using surface-mount conduit to tie the sites together.
