Can I put a drop ceiling tile directly over a popcorn ceiling?

Drop ceiling tile is a decorative way to replace or repair the ceiling in any room. The way that a drop ceiling is installed is that a thin metal grid is suspended from the ceiling, and then tiles are placed in the grid. So long as the drop ceiling grid has a solid area to be mounted to, it can be installed over any other kind of ceiling, including a popcorn ceiling. Since you do not install the drop ceiling directly to the existing ceiling, you are able to drop the ceiling below the level of almost any other ceiling materials.
