Can I use a power sander to finish my wood veneer furniture?

by DoItYourself Staff

You may find wood veneer furniture if you are shopping for older furniture to decorate your home. Veneer is applied to a heavier, cheaper wood base with glue and pressure. The veneer is very thin and can easily split or crack. If you want to sand it, hand sanding is probably best as it gives you more control. A power sander may be too strong to use on this thin wood except with the lightest touch and great care. If you want to remove veneer and use the base wood of a piece, a power sander would be perfect for this project.
