Can My SIM Card Be Used in a Prepaid Phone?

by DoItYourself Staff

Anyone with a prepaid phone will be able to keep control of the amount of money spent each month on phone calls. It's possible to add minutes to the prepaid phone with any amount of money and once this credit has run out more should be added.

Contract Phone

If you have a contract phone then you will not normally know how much you have spent that month until you receive your bill at the end of the month. This is why many people who have contract phones are considering changing to a prepaid phone.

Swapping SIM Cards

You cannot use your SIM card on any other network. That SIM card is your contract SIM and will always remain that way. The only thing that you can do is get a new prepaid SIM card and put it into your contract phone. This may or may not work depending on whether your mobile phone is unlocked.

Unlocking Phones

In order to use a phone on a different network to the one you are currently using, you may need to get it unlocked. This shouldn't cost very much money and should be very easy. By unlocking your phone you will be able to put any SIM card you want in the phone.
