Can Using a Liquid Plumber to Unclog a Bathtub Drain Damage the Pipes?

by DoItYourself Staff

Many people choose to unclog bathtub drain pipes with a commercial Liquid Plumber type drain opener, and others use it only as a last resort. These products are effective at removing hair and soap scum clogs in bathtub drains. Commercial liquid drain openers are considered safe for all types of bathtub drain pipes. You must take care not to splash them on your skin or in your, but they won't harm pipes.

Never mix different types of drain openers, as a chemical reaction could cause heat that may damage pipes. Never mix chemical drain openers with bleach or ammonia as this can release of noxious gases.
