Can Wire Wool be Used to Clean Stainless Steel?

by DoItYourself Staff

You should not use regular wire wool to clean stainless steel. When you use traditional wire wool on stainless steel, it could scratch the surface of the stainless steel item. It could also put fragments of the wire wool into the stainless steel item. When this happens, the fragments could potentially rust and ruin the stainless steel utensil. If you are going to scrub stainless steel, you should try using a nylon pad or a stainless steel wool pad. Both of these will not cause any serious damage to the stainless steel and they will not rust.
