Candle Wax Stain Removal Procedures
what you'll need
- Ice cubes
- Butter or putty knife
- Clean towels
- Carpet Spot cleaner
- Furniture wax or polish
The glow of candles provides a quiet relaxed atmosphere. However, candles can also make a mess due to a candle wax stain that can quickly create a damper in the mood.
However, there are some easy to steps to follow if you do have an accident and discover wax has leaked onto your floor, tables or carpets. As long as you do not panic and have the appropriate materials in the home to clean up the wax, it should be a breeze.
It is important to give attention immediately to the area where the wax falls before it hardens on its own. If it does, this makes it even more difficult to remove from carpets, rugs, tables, wood flooring, and other furniture that could quickly be ruined. As always, wear protective gear to keep hands and body parts from being hurt.
Carpet and Rug Cleaning
Step 1: Freeze
If you should spill or have a candle leak wax on your carpeting or rug, first freeze the area with an ice cube. Hold the ice cube on the wax until it hardens. You can hold the cube in a clean towel and rest it on the wax for a few moments to keep your hand from getting too numb.
Step 2: Scrape Wax
After the wax has hardened, use the putty knife, butter knife, or any dull knife to lift the hardened wax. If it cracks or splits, that is fine. Just continue lifting the hardened wax until all of it has been removed from the carpet.
Step 3: Spot Spray for Protection
If the wax is on a rug, follow the same steps, but you can turn it over and spray it with a carpet spot remover to keep any staining from bleeding through or spreading the dye.
Step 4: Dry Time
Let the area dry completely before replacing the rug or putting furniture back onto the carpet.
Step 5: Vacuum
Vacuum up any wax shavings to make sure the area is free from wax completely.
Removing Wax Wood Stains
If you are burning a candle and the wax leaks onto a table or wood flooring, this, too, can be cleaned without major damage to the wood.
Step 1: Get Ready to Freeze
Again, take an ice cube and rest it on top of the spilled wax. Hold the cube until the wax hardens and then remove the cube.
Step 2: Use Sharp Object
You can then gently remove the wax by using a blade that is not too sharp; if it is too sharp or has a sharp pointed end, it will scratch the wood. Use the utensil to remove the hardened wax without cutting too deeply into the wood.
Step 3: Reseal
Once the wax has been removed, you can re-seal or re-wax the area where the candle wax may have left the wood floor or furniture from looking dull.
In most circumstances, the best way to remove melted candle wax from any surface is by freezing the wax first. By freezing it, this makes the wax more accessible to removal. Once the wax is scraped clean from the area, you can go ahead and polish the area to add luster if it is a table or other piece of furniture.
