Carpet Ink Stain Removal Tips

When it comes to carpet ink stain removal, there are a few definite steps you need to take to ensure the stain doesn't spread or go further into the carpet once you have a spill. Keep in mind that hot water should never be used on these types of stains, and trying to clean with a rubbing motion as opposed to blotting action will often make the problem worse.

Ink stains on a carpet can be difficult to get rid of, but by using these steps you can work to remove them without anyone knowing they were ever there.

Step 1- Prepare Spot to be Cleaned

Your first job after a spill is to stop the stain from spreading. Do this by creating a barrier between the stain and the rest of the carpet by placing an alcohol and water mixture around the edges of the stain. You will also want to blot the excess ink as soon as possible, using minimal pressure.

Step 2- Soak Up the Stain

Next you need to put cold water onto the stain and apply a super-absorbent material to the area, such as a towel, paper or polymer fabric. Place a heavy weight over the paper and let it sit for 2 minutes.

Step 3 – Check the Progress

After the 2 minutes have passed, lift the paper, and if it looks like there could be more to soak up, replace it with clean material and put the weight back over it for another couple of minutes. If you think it cannot soak up any more, spray some hairspray over it. Apply fresh paper and the weight and leave it for 3 minutes this time. Let dry completely.

Step 4- If the Stain is Still There

If the stain has still not gone away after these steps, prepare a solution of one part water and one part white vinegar. Put this over the stain and allow it to soak in for 10 minutes. Then, take a toothbrush and go over the area lightly. Do not press hard, as it will make the remaining stain worse. Keep brushing until the stain is completely gone.
