Central air conditioning units are large machines that are designed to regulate the temperature inside a home. Rather than cool a single room, these units rely on duct works and vents to keep eachroom in a house at roughly the same temperature. Although they are complex, they do require standard care that most homeowners can tackle.

Central air conditioning units and their parts

Central air conditioning units have a number of small parts that enable them to cool and blow air. There are two main components in most central air conditioning units, however. They are:

• The condenser – The condenser assembly of central air conditioning units are generally located outside a home. This major component includes a compressor, condenser coil and a fan.
• The evaporator – Located inside the home, generally within a concealed space, is the evaporator. Central air conditioning units rely on this system and its blower and filter to pull air from inside a home into the unit to cool.
  

Caring for central air conditioning units

Central air conditioning units do require routine maintenance to function correctly. To keep central air conditioning units running right make sure to change filters on a regular basis, keep the condenser unit free of yard debris and clean the coils. Evaporator trays should be emptied and this part of the unit should be kept clean.
