Charging and Maintenance of a Boat Battery
Charging of boat battery is a difficult issue. It becomes a trouble when the engine is not run extensively enough to achieve a full charge, like occasional use and regular starting and stopping. This occurs due to short runs, like during fishing.
Causes of Boat Battery Problems
Outboard boat owners, in general, frequently experience battery breakdown because of unfinished charging. Getting a full charge will take more than a few hours as a minimum. Therefore when you are running for shorter periods, maybe it is because batteries are not being completely charged. Partial charges have a snowballing result. Following unfinished charging the battery is partially used up, and this produces added depletion and more extensive charging times.
Prevention of Boat Battery Problems
To prevent yearly battery replacement, deep cycle batteries would function most efficiently when charging is totally dependent on engine alternators, because batteries that are cranking do not allow deep performance well. Also, if you are going offshore where there might be excessive need on bilge pumps, watch out for inexpensive automotive batteries, because they are not going to operate your pumps for a long period, especially after the engine has failed. Offshore operators must use deep-cycle batteries with superior capacity.
