Cheese Steak

by DoItYourself Staff

Philadelphia is known for their great cheese steak sandwiches. You can find many variations of them anywhere, but Philly is the place to get the best. The combination of tender and juicy shaved steak, melted cheese, and onion can make anyone’s mouth water. Add the toasted garlic bread and seasonings and you have a masterpiece.

The cheese steak sandwich has been a popular staple in sports arena, sub shops, and on many menus in famous restaurants. The popularity of the cheese steak is greatly due to the ease in preparation.

Making Your Own Cheese Steak

You can use any cut of beef, as long as it is sliced thin or shaved. Create your own garlic butter by using margarine and garlic powder then spread it on the sub buns. Place the sub buns on a griddle for a few minutes or until golden brown.

You want to stuff the sub bun full of the cheese steak meat and layer it with sautéed onions and top with a handful of mozzarella cheese.

Place the cheese steak with the top bun off under a broiler to melt the cheese. You can season with salt or other seasonings if desired. Slap that top bun on and you have a homemade cheese steak, just as good as in Philadelphia.
