Children's Storage Tips

by DoItYourself Staff

If you have children, you have confronted the children's storage issues that come from a vast accumulation of toys, supplies and clothes.  With babies and toddlers come the first wave of toys and supplies. Preschool and grade-school kids are constantly acquiring new toys, clothes, shoes, books and gadgets of all types. Fortunately, functional and creative storage solutions for these items abound, putting total organization within your grasp.

Under the Bed

The space under the bed can easily be utilized for storage. The selection and variation in size and color of storage bins is endless. First, decide what things to store under the bed, such as extra bedding, out of season clothing and art supplies. Next, find the storage bin that works best and fits under the bed. Look for flat storage units that are designed to slide under the bed. Better yet, invest in a loft bed and be amazed by the extra space that you find under the bed.

Use the Walls

The best place for children's storage is wall space. If you have older children, you can mount shelving units higher on the walls for school projects, supplies, CDs and other personal items. For younger children, attach  shelves lower on the wall for easy access to toys and books.

Another option is hooks on the wall for jackets and art smocks. Or, stand alone shelves with cubbies for organization of toys. There are plenty of creative options for children's storage that look great too.
