Choosing and Installing Candelabra Bulbs
When it comes to choosing or installing candelabra bulbs for your home candelabra, you can easily find a wide variety to choose from. The different types of candelabra bulbs include the silver-tip globe, the globe, the circular and the flame-tip light bulbs. Keep in mind that in older times, the candelabra held actual candles but today, since we are living in modern times, candelabra have been manufactured so that they can hold light bulbs instead.
1 – Choosing the Candelabra Bulbs
If you decide to install an ordinary light bulb into your candelabra, it is best to select a forty-watt light bulb rather than a sixty watts one. Keep in mind that there is often some proportion between the diameter of the light bulb and the holder, which in this case is really the branch of the candelabra.
The light of a sixty-watt light bulb is usually brighter than that of a forty-watt bulb, therefore invest in a dimmer switch to be used with the candelabra if you would like to install these light bulbs on a typical candelabrum with six branches. Using a dimmer switch will help you to control the brightness of the light projected much more easily. Light bulbs of this type are more appropriate for sconces which are located in a bathroom.
The wattage is smaller for a flame-tip bulb. In fact, the wattage of a flame-tip bulb varies only between seven to fifteen watts. These flame-tip bulbs are very appropriate for your candelabra due to the fact that they project a thin central light which simulates real candlelight.
There are also the circular light bulbs which usually have a diameter of about one inch. They are more appropriate on a modern-looking candelabrum and are ideal for illuminating the bedroom of a child. These circular bulbs are available at a wattage between 25 and 40 watts.
On the other hand, the global candelabra bulb is appropriate for Christmas festivities. You can simply decorate the house for Christmas by installing them into a candelabrum. As for the silver-tip global bulbs, you can put them in a room that has a classic decor or else, you can put them in a candelabrum near a mirror. This is greatly effective since the silver in the light bulb compliments and matches the reflective effect of the mirror.
2 – Installing the Candelabra Bulbs
Keep in mind that the socket of a candelabrum is similar to that of a lamp, and you will see two terminal screws which are there to connect the leads of the lamp cord. Remove the two screws with a flathead screwdriver to provide more space between them. Put one lamp cord lead beneath each terminal screw and wrap it around the screw. If you notice that there is not enough metal wire visible, cut some more of the insulation. Put the terminal screws back and tighten them firmly.
Now put the lamp card into the mounting pipe which should be hollow, then attach the mounting pipe to the socket of the candelabra from the bottom. Now install a candelabra bulb by putting it in the socket and then connect the lamp cord to an electric outlet on the wall.
