Cleaning a Venturi Nozzle on a Water Softener

by DoItYourself Staff

Over time, the venturi nozzle on your water softener may become clogged, and it will cease to function as well as it should. If you do not clean it, the problem will continue to get worse until the nozzle does not function at all.

To prevent this, simply get into a routine of cleaning the nozzle once a month. It only takes a few minutes to do, and it could save you the cost of hiring a technician to make real repairs.

Disassembly and Cleaning

Unscrew the cap on the nozzle. Place it and the inside parts on a clean, dry surface. Mix a solution of liquid dish or hand soap in a small bowl of water. Place the venturi nozzle in the bowl of soapy water and let it soak for a few minutes. Use a soft bristle brush to clean the venturi nozzle and all the parts gently.

Reassembly and Testing

Rinse the venturi nozzle and pieces. Reassemble the nozzle exactly as it came apart. Test it to make sure it operates properly. Operate the nozzle for a couple minutes to be sure the soap has been flushed from the nozzle.
