Cleaning Tips for Homemade Grout Cleaner
Without an effective grout cleaner, the porous grout between tiles can easily become dirty, discolored and dingy. But fortunately, there are effective grout cleaners you can use to take care of this problem. Some commercial chemical grout cleaners work well, but so do some homemade grout cleaners–and these are considerably less expensive. If you’re grout is in need of cleaning, use the following tips to keep countertops, flooring and other surfaces clean and spotless.
Tip 1 – Seal Grout Properly
Seal your grout properly to keep it from looking dirty. Because of the porous nature of grout it can become dingy no matter how much you clean it.
Tip 2 – Homemade Grout Cleaner
The following mixture is a home made grout cleaner that is safe and will effectively clean most grout. Mix well in large container:
- ½ cup baking soda
- ¼ cup white vinegar
- 1/3 cup ammonia
- 7 cups of water
Tip 3 – Clean Grout
Pour some of the above mixture into to a spray bottle. After spraying the cleaner on your tile grout, wipe it away with a damp sponge. If deeper cleaning is needed, use a toothbrush to scrub the grout. There is no need to rinse after applying this cleaner.
