Teaching your kids washer dryer safety practices will assure that they understand how to use the machine properly while avoiding potentially dangerous situations that may arise with improper use.
Observation Is a Good Teaching Tool
Start by showing your kids how you load the machine and wash the laundry. Take them step by step through the process of sorting laundry, loading it into the machine, adding detergent and setting the controls. Exlain each of the cycles from soak, wash, rinse and spin to transferring the clean wet clothes to the dryer. Explain why you are taking each step.
Cleansers such as bleach can be very dangerous. Explain to your children that bleach can burn their eyes and it should be handled very carefully. Demonstrating the proper way to pour bleach and stand with them when they try it on their own.
Washers and Dryers Are Not Toys
Possibly the most important lesson for your child to learn is that washers and dryers are not toys. Children can be injured when crawling inside a washer or dryer. Pets should never be placed inside the machines. Children should always keep their hands away from the moving parts of machinery.
Monitor your child the first few times they use the washer and dryer to be sure they are following all of the proper safety rules for using a home appliance.
