Finding your way around a closet is hard enough if its not properly organized, but if it doesn’t have a closet light fixture it can be nearly impossible! Here are 4 simple and inexpensive ideas to locate a light in your closet so you can easily find your way.
- The porcelain socket - The simplest and easiest Closet Light is a porcelain socket and a ‘G’ or Globe bulb. You can get both at any hardware store and a 40W bulb should be enough wattage for a small closet. They are both inexpensive and for around $5 you add It a classic look to a space.
- The surface mounted fixture - If you want a more finished look, and a simple to install fixture, you can select a surface mounted either incandescent or compact fluorescent with a glass diffuser and mount it to the ceiling. For these two scenarios we are assuming a small walk in closet, or one that has the space for a surface mounted fixture.
- The fluorescent strip - Mount a simple integral ballast fluorescent strip (Hera lighting makes very small ones) on the inside, above the door. This option is inexpensive and can be wired with a cord and plug.
- The closet rod - The more expensive option is a light closet rod. These come in both fluorescent and LED and variable lengths.
These are just 4 options of what you can do with closet lighting. It would depend on your closet and your budget to be able to really determine the best approach. The important thing to note is that there is a lighting solution for every problem!
