College Dorm Furniture: How to Make Your Own Pin Up Board
Save money on your college dorm furniture budget by creating your own pin-up board. Customize your own bulletin board by making it yourself with inexpensive supplies. Follow the instructions below to build a board made of cardboard or one make of plywood.
Cardboard Pin-Up Board - Tools and Materials
- Corrugated cardboard
- Fabric
- Thumbtacks
- Push pins
Step 1 - Cut Cardboard
Get a piece of thick corrugated cardboard from a paper store or use a cardboard box. Cut cardboard to desired size.
Step 2 - Cut Fabric
Purchase a piece of fabric or use an old shirt. Cut fabric 2 to 3 inches bigger than the cardboard.
Step 3 - Attach Fabric
Wrap fabric snugly around the cardboard and fasten it in back with thumbtacks. Attach to wall with push pins on all 4 corners for a pin-up board that costs almost nothing.

- Thin plywood
- Foam board
- Fabric
- Glue
- Staple gun
- Mounting brackets
Step 1 - Cut Plywood
Purchase a thin sheet of plywood from your local home improvement store. Have it cut to the size you desire.
Step 2 - Attach Foam Board
Get a piece of thick foam board from your local craft store and cut it to the same size as the plywood. Glue it to the plywood and let it dry.
Step 3 - Attach Fabric
Cut fabric 3 inches bigger than plywood, wrap it snugly around foam board and plywood. Attach in back with staple gun. Attach mounting brackets and hang it up.
