Course

A leaking roof is a huge problem that happens to many home owners. When there is a course of shingles that is bad it has to be repaired right away. By installing the course of shingles yourself you can save yourself a decent amount of money. After taking off the bad course of shingles you can start installing the new ones.

  • Start by installing the new drip edge at the bottom and sides.
  • Place the felt down and pin it into position. If you live in a colder climate you will want to put a layer of ice and water shield down as well.
  • Install the course of starter shingles.
  • Next place the other shingles down while nailing them in as you continue along. After you have installed the final row of shingles you can cover the roof vent if you so choose to.

Tips for Installing a Course of Shingles

  • Depending on the style of house you own you may have to use some tricky techniques to place part of a course of shingles.
  • Always wear the proper safety equipment when working on top of a roof as it may be slippery at anytime.
