Creating A Family Room For Your Kids
When you decide that the old family room isn't fitting the needs of your family, it's time for a change! Kid-proofing and kid friendly furniture is easy to incorporate to the room your kids will use most.
Add Cushioned Ottomans
Take out tables with sharp corners. Most kids have a scar put there by the family room coffee table, kids are going to play and sharp table corners are not conducive to this environment. Switch the table for a cushioned ottoman. You can add a tray for functionality, such as placing drinks on. Leather or microfiber are good fabric choices because they are easy to wipe down.
Try to get a storage ottoman to store all the toys that are usually on the living room floor. If you can't get a storage ottoman, get canvas bins to throw toys in.
Create a Safe Environment
Put things that kids shouldn't play with out of reach. DVD players and discs should be put up out of reach. Put the discs in a CD case to protect them and let the kids pick from the empty cases. Make sure candle rocks are also out of reach. While these make nice decorative touches, they can be a choking hazard for young children. Be sure to safe proof your electrical outlets as well.
