If you have a fish tank, you are probably getting frustrated trying to clean out the crushed rock on the bottom of it. There are many ways to do this, but without any machine, there seems to be only one fail safe way to get most of the gunk out.
- Step 1: Remove your fish and put them in temporary water bowls.
- Step 2: Dump or scoop out as much water as you can without losing any crushed rock.
- Step 3: Scoop out some of the rocks with a sifter or strainer, rinse them with hot water, and deposit them in a clean bucket. Make sure to swirl the crushed rock around to loosen up the debris.
- Step 4: Once you have removed all of the rocks you can clean out the rest of the fish tank.
- Step 5: Replace the rocks, water, and fish.
Other Ways to Clean Crushed Rock
Some people need a way to clean the crushed rock without removing it entirely. If this is the case, you can use your strainer to stir up the surface of the rocks and catch the debris in the net. Although this won’t clean the crushed rock very well, it will help keep the tank longer in between cleanings.
