Curb Appeal

by DoItYourself Staff

Curb appeal may be something you hear your realtor say on many occasions. If you are trying to sell your home then curb appeal is the first thing that the realtor would like to see handled.

Curb appeal is simply, when you drive up to a home, how it looks on the outside. There may be fruit trees in the front yard, a pretty painted white picket fence or even a nice decorative garden. If there is no curb appeal to the property then it is likely a person will have a negative thought of the home before they even enter inside.

Creating Curb Appeal

Curb appeal can be created in many ways; the first general rule is tidy up. If there are any items that are cluttered outside the home they need to be disposed of. You should have nice clean trash cans with lids to hide your waste. Make sure all bushes and hedges are trimmed and the flower gardens are planted and weeded.

The old fence may need painting and the front porch cleaned off, you may even need to wash those windows or replace missing shutters. Curb appeal is just the idea of making something attractive and your home should be desirable to the buyer before they enter.
