Cutting Coaxial Cable
what you'll need
- Cable Cutters
- Coaxial Cable Stripper
Coaxial cable is still the most common type of cable used to cable TV and a lot of other electronic equipment. When you are readjusting your home electronics set-up, you may find you need to cut your coaxial cable to a shorter size. If so, you must take the time to know what you're doing, or else you could end up with a poor quality transmission, or even an electric shock hazard.
Step 1: Cut Coaxial Cable with the Cable Cutters
Holding the cable firmly so that it does not slide out of place, compress sharply on cable cutters to produce a clean and even snap.
Step 2: Place Cable in Coaxial Cable Stripper
Lay the coaxial cable in the stripper, so that the end that you have cut is evenly aligned with the lip of the stripper.
Step 3: Strip the Cable
Rotate the stripper clockwise six times, then another six times counter clockwise. When finished, take coaxial cable out of the stripper.
Step 4: Remove the Insulation
Reach into the copper core of the cable and remove any excess insulation. Take care not to damage any of the delicate copper wiring within.
