Design A Classy Yet Discount Bathroom

by DoItYourself Staff

Bathroom remodeling can be expensive, leading many people to consider discount bathroom remodeling and discount bathroom fixtures. It definitely will pay to think outside the box when it comes to remodeling your bathroom, just make sure that you are still designing a classy bathroom despite the fact that it is also a discount bathroom. Here is a basic guide to designing a classy bathroom without losing an arm and a leg doing it.

Step #1: Prefab Shower

Consider easing back on the idea of a custom designed shower. Instead, you should consider using a pre fabricated shower unit instead, which will save a significant amount time and money. If you are absolutely required to have a tiled shower, then consider fusing a poly shower pan to the tile in order to save on cost as well as hassle.

Step #2: Bath Tub Refinishing

Consider a bath tub or shower liner, which is a hidden secret of many of the bathrooms that look really nice these days. They are never necessarily a permanent fix, but they are going to last you a few solid years. Bath tub refinishing is a good way to deal with an ugly bath tub or a discolored bath tub without having to completely replace your bath tub which is a way more costly option in the end.

Step #3: Consider Repair

If you are dealing with nicks or scratches, consider repair instead of replacement. This will work for the fixtures and furniture in your bathroom, including your sink, your counter, your bath tub, your shower and even your toilet.

Step #4: Do It Yourself

Keep in mind that most of the processes involved in renovating and remodeling a bathroom can be done by yourself. Save money by leaving the plumber, electrician and other contractors out of it, and try to do most of the work yourself. Replacing a sink, a toilet or a bathroom fixture like a hot or cold adjustment knob will be a generally simple project if you have the right tools and the right know-how, so keep this in mind before you hire an expensive contractor.

Step #5: Cover Rather Than Replace

One of the best mantras that you can consider when it comes to remodeling, renovating or simply updating your bathroom is to cover rather than replace. Cover up damage, dirt, discoloration and other issues that you cannot outright replace. Use wainscoting to cover up boring walls for example, as the installation is simple and straight forward and inexpensive especially when you consider how much painting can cost.

Many people would like to believe that there is no such thing as a cheap or easy bathroom remodel, but this is not the case. The bathroom remodeling process is more than capable of becoming inexpensive if you are willing to weigh all of your options and consider putting off some replacements for the sale of repairs and cover ups.
