Detail

In any building or architectural plan, there will be included larger, or more specific drawings, which highlight features of a room. These drawings are called a detail.

What a Detail Includes

A detail will include special, specific, detailed information about that particular, isolated aspect of the construction.

A detail would be, for instance, a drawing within a bathroom design which showed specific tile work, how the tile work is to be laid, what the dimensions are, what the specific materials are in constructing it.

It could also show the plumbing work with specific measurements of pipe length or exactly where the faucets or other fixtures are to be on the wall. The architect’s notes as to specificity of materials, proper methods of installation, how the overall assembly of the detail in question is to be constructed can also be included in the detail.

A detail may require a separate page in the architect’s drawing, or may be included as a smaller detail box within a larger page.
