Dining Chandelier Placement: 3 Tips
A dining chandelier can add elegance to any dining room. However, placement considerations for dining chandeliers are a little bit different than for other rooms in your home. Here is a quick list of things you should know before installing a dining chandelier.
Hang Over the Table
When placing a dining chandelier in your dining room, the fixture should hang directly above your dining room table. If the electrical connections in your dining room do not match well with hanging the chandelier over the center of the table, you need to hang a heavy-duty decorative ceiling hook above the center of the table, and then connect a length of chain to carry your wiring from the hook to the electrical convention.
Chandelier Hanging Height
For most rooms with eight or nine foot ceilings, the bottom of your dining chandelier should be about 30 to 33 inches above your dining room table. However, in dining rooms with very high ceilings, you may want to adjust the chandelier hanging height up by about 6 inches to 12 inches.
Chandelier Diameter
When choosing a dining chandelier, size is very important. You don't want the chandelier to appear too big or overpowering, so you need to take some measurements. Measure the width and length of your table or the diameter of a roundtable. Your chandelier diameter should be about 12 inches less than the width or diameter of your table.
