 Cleaning Furniture

What good is having a clean home if your furniture is disgustingly dirty? Here is how to get your furniture looking like it fits perfectly in your spotless home.

  • Remove all of the cushions from the couch and use a hand-held dusting broom to loosen as much dirt up as possible. Vacuum all of the debris up with your vacuum’s brush attachment. Vacuum every surface nook and cranny, even the bottom of the couch or chair.
  • Vacuum both sides of the cushions that were removed and once finished, return them to their place on the furniture.
  • Mix together a ¼ cup of liquid laundry detergent and a cup of warm water. If you only have powder laundry detergent, then you can use liquid dish detergent. Use an electric mixer to thoroughly mix the solution until you have thick, whipped cream-like peaks.
  • Find an inconspicuous spot on the furniture to test for the solution for colorfastness before proceeding.
  • Use a cloth to apply the suds directly to the fabric on the furniture. Rub it in and you should start seeing dirt lifting up in the suds. Use a plastic scraper to scrape the dirty suds away.
  • Rinse the area with a clean damp cloth and move on to the next area of the furniture.
  • Allow the furniture to sit overnight to fully dry.
